A new 300 m² retail extension and major carpark upgrades transformed an existing shopping centre while it remained fully operational. Public safety was a top priority throughout the works.
The extension combined structural steel and lightweight framing, with an external façade of weatherboard lining and sandstone cladding that complemented the heritage style of the existing centre. Inside, the new store features a modern fit-out designed to meet contemporary retail standards.
Construction began with bulk excavation for the building pad and retaining wall footings. Working in the Perth Hills, the team efficiently managed substantial clay and rock without impacting the project schedule.
Situated next to the main shopping centre roadway, the site presented tight access and staging constraints. MRO Property Services used full perimeter scaffolding with multiple working decks, lowered progressively as each section was completed. Simultaneously, the carpark was upgraded with widened walkways, line marking, pedestrian paths, and covered verandas, all carefully staged to minimize disruption.
Blocked or damaged stormwater drains and pipework were replaced during construction with no delay to the program. Close collaboration between MRO Property Services, the superintendent, and centre management ensured the project was delivered on time, allowing the new retailer to open for the Christmas trading period.
