Kirby Swim – Erskine
| Location | Erskine |
| Client | Kirby Swim |
| Date | Completed 2009 |
MRO Property Services recently completed the 650 square metre Kirby Swim indoor aquatic complex in Erskine, a modern facility designed for both community and competitive swimmers. The centre includes a pool deck, reception, change rooms and ablutions, staff offices, viewing areas, plant and first aid rooms, a service yard, and a car park, providing a fully functional and welcoming environment for all users.
Constructing the building around the pool shell required careful planning and precision. The team used cast in situ footings, tilt-up concrete panels, structural steel, and sandwich-panelled custom orb roof sheeting. External CFC cladding and textured finishes gave the centre a sleek and durable appearance. Acoustic tile ceilings and a vinyl spiral duct gas heating system were installed to maintain a comfortable environment for both swimmers and staff.
Inside, full-height wall tiles in the amenities and feature colour banding on the floors and walls added a vibrant and professional finish. The pool was plastered with coloured lane markers, and the concourse featured coloured concrete detailing. Acoustic solutions, including ceiling tiles in the skylight area and perforated gyprock in the reception, helped keep noise levels down and the atmosphere pleasant.
The site’s location next to a busy shopping centre required careful coordination for traffic and service management. A 150 metre service trench was installed through a busy loading zone without disrupting operations. Upgraded materials and finishes were used to withstand the chlorine environment and coastal conditions, ensuring a long-lasting facility.
Completed in just 30 weeks, Kirby Swim was delivered on time and earned a nomination for the 2009 Master Builders Awards, reflecting the skill, planning, and expertise of the MRO Property Services team.
